Gubin - Town and Main Church

One of the most impressive buildings of Gubin is the Guben Town and Main Church. The first documentary evidence for this late gothic building dates back to 1294. From 1508 to 1557 it got its final external design. At the end of February 1945 the Church burned own down completely.  Since then it had been standing in the historical town centre of Gubin as a ruin and a memorial against war and destruction. A Gubin foundation and a Guben association are committed to re-build of the church and to make it a German-Polish communication centre to promote and strengthen intercultural relations. The work started in 2006 and shows first results. The church tower was put on its cover again which brought  back its original look. The tower has been repaired and offers all those who take the efforts of climbing it an unforgettable view over Guben and Gubin.
