Gubin - Villa Wolf

In 1927, the Guben cloth factory owner Erich Wolf had an innovative residence built in the Guben mountains by the famous Bauhaus architect  Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. This cottage designed in the Bauhaus style is the first of a series of remarkable building projects and is considered  to be a key building for this architect’s later works. The area of the former villa is located on a small hill parallel to the Neisse bank. The front of the building showed to the west so that it was possible to enjoy a far view into the river valley. In 1945 the cottage burned down completely, and the ruin was pulled down. Only parts of the supporting wall remained. Today the old ground plan is visible in the plants of the designed green. In 1977 a park for the Gubin citizens, the Waszkiewicz Park, was laid out here including also the location of the former villa. Today the place invites you with fragments from history, great views, big trees and playgrounds to take a short break from the daily routine.
