Krzesin Landscape Park

Fifteen kilometres from Gubin, in the western part of the Oder valley at the confluence of the Lusatian Neisse and the Oder, is the Krzesin Nature Reserve. The riverside forests and flood meadows – characteristic of the landscape here – contain many species of plants. Covering an area of about 8,500 hectares, the reserve accommodates over 150 species of birds. Here dwell lizards, snakes, and thirty-three species of mammals – among them beavers and bats. This nature reserve is a popular destination for nature-lovers and individual tourists. On the spit of land where the Neisse joins the Oder is to be found the "Cross of Encounter". Erected after the Oder flood in 1997, this place represents the commitment to protect such natural river landscapes, and encourages us to awaken our sensitivity and thoughts to this beautiful, old landscape.

About two kilometres to the south of the confluence lies Borek lake. With its water-sports centre and gastronomical attractions, it’s a popular place for summer trips and swimming. These natural surroundings are an oasis of silence and relaxation, where the air is resinous and the woods are rich in mushrooms and berries.
