Sembten Village Church
First mentioned as the daughter church of Grano in 1718, which is possibly the year in which building work start. A bell dating from 1533 (the only one left out of three) is still hanging in the belfry of the church tower.
The nave houses an unusual coloured chandelier made from crystal which is electrically operated.
The church in Sembten is a protected monument.
It is a rectangular, rendered field stone construction with a square west tower topped by an attractive Baroque cupola. The interior of the church is dominated by the timber flattened barrel vault on four wooden supports at each point. The high pulpit altar flanked by pillars, part of the original building, is interesting.
The ornamental sun at the upper edge of the altar through which the sun actually shines is a pretty little detail.
Open church: The church is open from June to September from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
