Guben Town and Industrial Museum
With innovative design ideas and the use of modern media, the City and Industry Museum presents itself in the former hat factory of Carl Gottlob Wilke, the German inventor of the weatherproof woollen felt hat. A museum to experience with digital perspective and virtual reality.
Under 14 themed bonnets hanging from the ceiling, the multifaceted history of Guben's town and industry can be experienced in German and Polish on around 450 square metres. Historical knowledge about the town's history and traditional hat making can be experienced in a variety of ways: through stories to listen to and marvel at, interesting things to read and watch, history to touch and hats to try on in the "Virtual and Real Hat Try-On Station".
The world of old crafts can be experienced interactively in virtual reality via VR glasses. In addition to these VR glasses, since 2022 there have also been ten QR codes that can be called up with one's own mobile phone. You can listen to ten audio episodes (podcasts) on the topic: "The 10 secrets of hat making in Guben" as a contemporary witness report on hat making in Guben in the former VEB Hutwerke Guben.
