In 1907, a long-cherished wish of the inhabitants of Guben was fulfilled. A connection from the banks of the Neisse River to the higher part of the town was built. In the vernacular, this connection was quickly called the Great Ladder to Heaven. The footpath across the slope, in the form of the Great Ladder to Heaven, has 17 landings for resting and catching your breath, as well as 138 steps. The ladder can serve as a starting point for a walk to the Gubin Hills, from which you can enjoy a fascinating view over the towns of Guben and Gubin.
