Restaurant and Café "Wilhelm"

After more than 20 years of dormancy, a place that has been a part of Guben's lives for generations has been brought back to life. Many Guben residents learned to read, write, and do arithmetic at the former Wilhelm Pieck School and made lifelong friends there. But the Pieck School in Guben wasn't just any school; when it was founded in 1951/52, it was considered the most beautiful and modern school in East Germany. Many Guben residents are justifiably proud of this magnificent building in the heart of the city. The Guben Social Services gave the listed building a new purpose, transforming it into a modern care center between 2021 and 2024. The former classrooms have been revived. The former lecture hall has been transformed into the stylish Restaurant & Café Wilhelm. With regional dishes and homemade cakes and pastries, it invites guests to enjoy a special coffee break and its pleasant atmosphere.
