Technical Monument – Grießen Hydroelectric Power Station
Grießen hydroelectric power station was built in the late 1920s and operated tirelessly for almost 40 years before it was shut down in 1967. To safeguard the water supply, an inlet structure on the River Neiße dams the water and routes it along an inlet channel to the power station. Underneath the power station, the water falls about three and a half metres driving a 500-kilowatt Kaplan turbine. A Hitzinger three-phase generator is coupled to this. The electricity generated in this way is fed into the public grid.
Visitors who do not shy away from climbing the narrow steps of the spiral staircase in the power plant tower will be rewarded on the observation platform with a panoramic view over the Neiße wetlands as far as the German-Polish border river.
The hydroelectric power station can only be visited if booked in advance
