Guben City Library
The Guben City Library is a place of diversity and cosiness. Visitors can browse in peace with a cup of coffee, play in the child-friendly area or do research at the Internet workstations, which are supported by free Wi-Fi.
With a stock of about 45,000 media, the library covers a wide range of books, including novels for adults, children and young people, non-fiction books on numerous topics, as well as Tonies, DVDs (including Blu-ray and 3D), audio books, Kamishibai and board games. In addition, there are current newspapers and magazines as well as console games and even a "library of things".
The area of regional studies offers around 500 media on the history and present of Guben and the region, including valuable materials such as the Gubener Zeitung (1871–1945) and the Gubener Tageblatt (1879–1933) on roll film.
The library offers numerous services, including the loan of media, qualified advice, the possibility of research at Internet workstations and the interlibrary loan of non-fiction literature. In addition, visitors can view the old Gubener Zeitung on roll film, take part in literary events or log into the free Wi-Fi area. A hot drinks vending machine, copying and printing facilities as well as a book flea market complete the offer.
For families, there are regular free picture book cinema events, a Holiday Reading Club during the summer holidays, the Family Sunday in October and a family ticket for reduced annual fees. In addition to sofas and armchairs, the child-friendly area also offers a games table, low shelves and interactive media. In addition, barrier-free toilets, a changing table and participation in the Brandenburg Family Pass are available.
The Escape Room can be used on request, which provides variety and exciting challenges.
A mobile library for seniors without having to leave the house is also offered on request.
